Every time you watch a play or movie, do you think, “I could do that!” or “I’d really love to be up there, too”? It’s one of the oldest dreams to bring characters to life, to mesmerize thousands with your words and body, to be a star.

The problem is many people don’t know how to go about doing this.

The first thing is figure out where your strong points are. Can you sing? How well do you project? What are your character development skills? These questions will answer the question “What facet of acting do I belong in”. Musical theater, straight theater, and film are all options and all have different skill sets.

First we’ll address training, a formal education in performance arts is not necessary, but certain things are expected of all working actors. Like hitting your mark, actors aren’t standing still the whole time, they move and stop. Being able to walk and stop sounds easy, but doing while reciting dialogue and making look natural and not as if you’re looking for it can prove difficult without training. Also the fourth wall, when acting you is in a self contained environment. You won’t be acknowledging the audience or cameras, which can also prove difficult. It may sound daunting. But there are many agencies out there that along with representing talent offer classes and develop talent. There are also workshops offered by universities, high schools, and community education. After you have some training, choose what type of acting you like and excel at.

Some varieties are straight theater, musical theater, improvisational theater, educational film, industrial film, independent film, and big budget to name a few. The pay scales are different for all and so is the level of difficulty in “breaking into” these particular areas of acting.

Now that you have explored the different areas you can find work in, how do you get work? Auditions. Auditions are often listed online and in newspapers. But an agency can find work specific to you. Which can dramatically change the number of jobs you get?

That is the basics of breaking into the world of acting. Break a leg out there!

Why you need an agency is a good question. Well the answer is simple it is the bridge between you and the film, acting and modeling industry! An agency performs the necessary steps to get you in front of the right companies and the right faces. In fact is it even hard to get a formal audition with out one or even know whats what without one especially if you are unfamiliar or “green” to the industry. Now most of them even keep notes, data and tabs on the auditioners comment and concerns which provides you key feedback on your strengths and weekness which has proved to be vital to your success as well as beneficial to progress in your career as an model or actor.

A good agency will also provide or give you direction as far as getting the nessesary tools for you to begin you journey, such as proper headshot and resume for acting and or a proper portfolio or the right photographer to do the job which is extremely important since a majority of the booking is based of pictures alone for modeling. The bottom line is an agency does all the constant leg work for you submissions contacting and the all mighty networking. Now keep in mind an agency also has an fincial encentive to book you work if they are a booking angeny which is beneficial for you. The more work they book you the more money the agent makes.

A majority of agents and agencies are experts at the game and every major model, actor and actress has one. Now do your research on what you need and what you want to accomplish and just make sure the agency has the right connections in whatever industry your goals are set out for. Ask a lot of questions so it can become a positive experience as well as a fanstastic business relationship!

Makeup gives everyone the power to transform themselves and try out a new persona.

Not many people are born with natural brown eyeshadow, mascara and lip gloss. Its up to you to decide to what degree you want to enhance or define your own face.

Beauty is one area where a lot of people are insecure. I don’t look at people and think rigid beauty thoughts like “I can’t believe she wore that lipstick with those Gloves!” or “White shadow never looks good with pale lips!” that kind of thinking is born out of rigidity and a desperate need for rules and guidelines. Most of us were taught at a very early age that fitting in should be our number one goal, and not individuality. Watching movies, looking at magazines and checking out people on the streets give me inspiration. Now I will give you some of my favorite ideas, tricks, techniques and thoughts on makeup, all the while encouraging the process of mixing ideas, and activating your own creativity.

Concealer can be mixed with creme or liquid eyeshadow, creme blush or lip colors to pale down or dilute the application.

Sometimes foundation is enough to cover under eye circles. However, if circles are dark, foundation, because it tends to be transparent, isn’t enough. This is where concealer comes in.

To avoid uneven distribution shake off excess powder from the sponge or brush before applying to the face.

Dark colors shade and make areas recede..hollows of cheeks, temples, under the chin, sides of nose.

Lighter colors highlight and make things come forward..apples of cheeks, under the eye, browbone, middle of chin.

Brush your brows up, and then set them in place with clear or colored brow set.

Soften and blend the edges of any eyeshadow shape you create with a eyeshadow brush to make it look more natural.

Everyone has different eye shapes, research them, and get tips on how to make your eyes stand out and pop.

Look at a color wheel for inspiration, using tint, tones, and complimentary colors of your eyes color.

Apply eyeliner as close as possible to and even into lashes to avoid the white line you get when liner and lashes don’t connect.

Concentrating mascara at the base of the lash root, then sweeping outward and upward, creates a thicker lash look with the ends separated and the base well defined.

I prefer to use a lip brush when filling in the mouth, it gives more control than using the tube itself.

Putting powder over the top the first coat of lipstick, then reapplying will help it last longer.

Using many coats of lipstick/gloss will make your lips look bigger and fuller.

Choosing a career in the entertainment industry as an actor or model may be one of the boldest decisions you’ll ever make.

While these careers may seem quite glamorous and exciting to you, the choice may not win you the “Decision-maker of the Year Award.” from your family and friends. “After all,” your parents might say, “You could get a college degree and become an accountant. Better yet, the local post office is hiring.” Now that’s an exciting stable job you can really sink your teeth into.

While they mean well, your family and friends may never have had contact with or even heard of an actor or model actually making it in the industry. They may endeavor to discourage you from pursuing a career that could, in their eyes, prove quite fruitless and a waste of time when you could be earning an hourly wage and bringing home a weekly paycheck.

Listen, if your already on our website, researching our agency, I’m betting that you have already decided to throw caution to the wind, ignore your family and friends who think you’re making a mistake and like NIKE, “Just Do It” anyway.

So here’s the good news, with training in our classes, experience and a well-developed portfolio with an amazing photographer and makeup artist, an actors/models day rate for photo sessions, music videos, film and tv commercials can be quite hefty.

So do you want to live the rest of your life doing a boring, monotonous job, or would you rather be an actor/model and live an exciting, thrilling life?

The key to that can unlock every model’s hidden door is a great portfolio. The portfolio shows the diversity of a model. Showing clients how the model is the “girl next door”, the sophisticated individual that can showcase elegance, the sports and fitness fanatic, or the hard working blue collar side of you.

The portfolio shows your expressions, attitude, professionalism, and shows the ability to work within a photo shoot. The portfolio photo shoot has three key components the photographer, the make up artist, and the model. The photographer and the make up artist will make the model shine and guarantee the success of the photo shoot.

A great make up artist will make or break a photo shoot. What the make up artist can bring to a model can make all the difference for the model and the photographer. The make up artist defines the difference between average and gorgeous. With the ability to hide flaws or to accent attributes the make up artist creates the character or discovers hidden personality.

The photographer will create the portfolio with their creative and professional experience. The old saying, “pictures can a thousand words” is great for a family picture, but a professional picture will say a million words to perspective clients. The photographer will get the right angles mixed with the right lighting to create masterpiece. This ability is what makes a good model a great model.

If you take a great make up artist add an amazing photographer you portfolio will be amazing. With an amazing portfolio, opportunities will present themselves to the model. This is the ingredients to starting a successful modeling career. You can have all the looks and tools you need, but with out the support and help of others; that’s all you may just become… just a look.

For Commercials look into the camera as if it was your best friend and Act Natural.

For Movie or TV Acting roles- Do NOT look into camera for the audition while you are in character. Remember the camera does not exist but you do send your feelings into the camera. Do look next to the camera unless the casting director tell you to look into the camera for roles such as being a TV Reporter or Announcer (people who always look into the camera in real life) If there is not a camera-use the room and the people in it WHILE YOU ARE IN your character.

You do look in the camera to slate. This means to say your name and agency SLATE ONLY IF THEY

REQUEST IT

Wear camera solid colors – be careful of large prints or patterns

Staple a one page well organized resume back to back of your headshot and hand it to the casting director the first thing.

Screen Actors Guild rules states that you must be provided with a script – you can take it into the audition with you – however you should know it well enough not to need the script because you have already created a character. Anyone looking down at a script breaks concentration.

Keep your script after the audition in case you get a call back.

Blend your make-up if you are a female – look natural like your photo

Arrive early to sign and to practice sides.

Never call the Casting Office of the Production directly- call the agency Memorize your part and FEEL it. Remember the realistic voice inflections and pauses.

Create an Entire shoot able Character and STAY in that Character until the casting director says “Cut” or “Thank – you”

Make a CHOICE for the character:

What is your character feeling? Happy/Sad? Mixed feeling? Is the emotion hidden? Where did your character come from and where are they going? Who is your character talking to and how does your character feel about that person? How does your character feel about what is happening in the script?

React to things that could be happening around you. Make it so real that they can tell what is going on just by your reactions. They are looking for believable characters with believable reactions that make you interesting to watch just like the television viewers are. Remember: You get hired more for your REACTIONS than for your Lines you deliver.

If you are a former Stage Actor – be aware of the large over exaggerated external movements that you generally use on stage and internalize the feelings for film.

I think in my perspective what it takes to be a good model is the Learning ability and intelligence, Self confidence, Good organization skills, a healthy body and lots of get-up-and-go! Not everyone is born a model they have to work for it and achieve that part of they’re career. A model that is comfortable in setting goals and not afraid to go after them with an aggressive determination.

What is so special about Successful Models? Successful fashion and glamor models have certain qualities that set them apart. Such as they’re ability to portray them into a character of fashion and of what they’re representing for the designer.

Attitude in a model is important as well to set them into a character of advertisement. They are to show many angles of different moods. In every shot they take they have to be in the mood to sell to the fashion industry, and to be a hit in the modeling media.

The model has the ability to represent them into a fashion icon when they are walking down the stage. They are changed into character a couple times a day. For every photo shoot they take they are put out there for an advertisement to represent a product and sell themselves and the merchandise.

A model is set to look good, he or she is determined to be fit and be healthy, to also be a role model for the rest of us who are watching. They’re a fashion icon that is moving around rotating roles and lifestyles. They represent high fashion, haute couture and even just a simple catalog. The truth is that without them we wouldn’t be able to see what we could look like in clothes or with other merchandise out there. Thanks to all the models out there they are beautiful in they’re ways and do they’re jobs that many of us wouldn’t be able to keep up with!

Have you ever heard of Tru Talent Management? Tru Talent is a talent management agency that helps individuals launch and manage their acting career. You must realize that an agent or agency is your representative. It is your agent’s responsibility and duty to submit you for acting roles and auditions. They will also take part in negotiating your fees and contract. By doing this for you, they will probably take around 10% of your gross pay when you get an acting role. There are so many acting agents out there today that you need to know how to secure one.

First off, when meeting with a potential agent, if they are impressed with your past performance, they will immediately offer you their services. Don’t plan on this happening if you are brand new to the industry.

Second, you might find an agent be receiving a recommendation or referral from a casting director, director, or actor that you are currently working with or have worked with in the past.

Third, you may just get a phone call from an agent after they have taken sufficient time to review your photo and resume that you sent to them in the mail. Many actors get their first agent by doing this.

One thing you should always remember when seeking out a talent agent or agency is that you are not required to give them any money before they make the decision to represent you. They should only make money if you are making money.

Tru Talent Management is a great agency to work with in order to launch your acting career. They currently have offices located in Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada.

To break into the modeling industry you have to have two things. You have to be bright and you have to be attractive. You will also need to have a great understanding of the industry and different modeling types so you can make an educated decision on which types of modeling is for you. You will have to make your decision based on the demands of each type of modeling.

According to Tru Talent Management, some of the different types of modeling include, fashion modeling, hobby modeling, glamor modeling, product modeling, and body parts modeling. The most popular type of modeling by far is fashion modeling, followed closely by glamor modeling. These industries are the most demanding and hardest to get into, however it isn’t impossible.

To ensure that you have what it takes to break into either of these types of modeling, you have to first have the highest level of self-confidence. You continually have to build your professional network and networking skills so that you can find the modeling gigs that you want to be a part of. You should also have an excellent body and have the drive to maintain your physique. This is a crucial step when being a part of the modeling industry.

Today, it is very common to hear actors and models refer to their agents. We hear them all of the time talking about their agents and how vital they are to their success and getting the next amazing role or photo shoot. It is very important to find the right agent for you and there are some things that you should know before you pursue an agent of your own.

You must first take a good hard look at yourself and evaluate your experience. If you have no experience and a weak resume, you are probably not going to get signed with a large agency. There are a lot of people who try to enter the industry each year and if you don’t have much experience, you need to have a strong talent management agency behind you to help train you and get your name and face out there.

Finding the right agent or agency to represent you can make the difference between you living your dreams as an actor or model, or slaving away for the man from 9-5 each day. If you think you have talent and can make something of your life, it is time to take action to see what you are made of. If you are lacking experience, it is wise to work with a small or local agency to give you the chance to beef up your resume so you can be successful when trying to get the bigger gigs.

Tru Talent Management can help you accomplish your dreams of becoming an actor or a model. Being a full service talent management agency, they can help you gain the skills you need to gain experience and become the next big actor or model.
